India squad for England Tour

India has announced its Test squad for the upcoming five-match series against England, marking a significant transition in leadership and team composition. Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new Test captain, succeeding Rohit Sharma, who recently retired from Test cricket. Rishabh Pant has been named vice-captain, reflecting his growing role in the team.

The squad features a blend of experienced players and newcomers. Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh have received their maiden Test call-ups, while Karun Nair returns to the Test setup after an absence since 2017.

Notably, senior pacer Mohammed Shami has been excluded from the squad due to injury concerns. Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar emphasized the importance of preserving Jasprit Bumrah's fitness, leading to the decision not to burden him with captaincy responsibilities.

The selection marks the beginning of a new World Test Championship cycle for India, with the team aiming to build a balanced and competitive side capable of succeeding in English conditions.

The first Test of the series is scheduled to commence on June 20, 2025. The series will be played across five venues: Leeds, Edgbaston, Lord's, Manchester, and The Oval, concluding on July 31, 2025.
